On 23 May 2025 S&P Global raised the long-term sovereign ratings from 'BB' to 'BB+' in both foreign and local currency, affirmed the short-term rating at 'B' and improved the transfer and convertibility assessment from 'BBB-' to 'BBB', with a stable outlook. The research update is titled “Guatemala Upgraded To 'BB+' From 'BB' On Record Of Economic Resilience; Outlook Stable” — verified in the 2026-08-19 audit against the primary source. On 8 May 2026 S&P affirmed BB+/B with a stable outlook; only the title of that action was verified, as the full text is behind restricted access.
