The World Bank (indicator SE.ADT.LITR.ZS, sourced from UNESCO UIS) reports adult literacy (15 and over) of 82.1% in 2024 and 83.0% in 2022–2023; that is, close to one adult in six cannot read or write. The figure is modeled; the official rate from the national literacy committee (CONALFA) could not be located and is listed as pending research. For the population aged 7 and over, the Q4 2024 ENEIC records that 20.5% have no level of education.
