By 2021 the trade association had set a target of creating 100,000 quality jobs across nine hubs or secondary cities: Escuintla, Puerto Barrios, Antigua, Petén, Los Altos (Quetzaltenango), Cobán, Guatemágica, Metrópoli de Oriente and Huehuetenango (Perspectiva). In verticals, the sector has diversified into telecommunications and technology, finance, manufacturing, retail and e-commerce, human resources, media, travel and transport, health and insurance, and logistics (AGEXPORT / Forbes CA). Cross-referenced with the EF EPI 2025, Quetzaltenango (513) and Sacatepéquez (511) beat the national English average, while Escuintla (374) falls well below it.
